Wrexham's Championship Journey: Supercomputer Predicts Promotion Chances After Norwich Victory (2025)

Wrexham have moved closer to the Championship play-off places after their latest outing.

Wrexham went 1-0 down at Carrow Road thanks to some questionable decision-making from Arthur Okonkwo.

However, despite another error from the goalkeeper late on, Wrexham beat Norwich City 3-2.

It was their second victory of the season in the Championship and has put some much-needed distance between them and the bottom three.

Now, they are actually not far away from moving into the play-off places following the weekend’s results.

But have they got what it takes to make even more history by winning four promotions in a row?

Prior to Wrexham, no side in history had won back-to-back-to-back promotions from the fifth tier or higher.

That all changed when they beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 at the Racecourse Ground on April 26, 2025.

But even with all that momentum, doing four in a row in 2025/26 could prove a big ask.

Before the campaign kicked off, Wrexham had a 2.7% chance of finishing in the play-offs according to Opta’s supercomputer.

However, after the Welsh outfit beat Norwich this weekend, that has changed.

Opta’s model now says that Wrexham have a 6.2% chance of winning Championship promotion via the play-offs.

Their title chances are much lower at 0.34%, while the Dragons have a 23.18% chance of suffering relegation.

Who are the favourites to win Championship promotion

Currently, Opta suggests Middlesbrough will go up as champions this season.

Boro are yet to lose a game under Rob Edwards and are enjoying their best-ever start to a second-tier campaign.

Bristol City are then the most likely to take the second automatic promotion spot this term.

Leicester City, Coventry City, West Brom and Ipswich Town are the favourites to take the four play-off places.
